Creative Womyn Down Under
LESBIAN WEEKENDER: DAY IN NEWTOWN Download a printable programme (pdf) Denise travels to Sydney with her work from Lesbian Love Lines from the womanly form...A collection of canvases and wooden blocks, that unveil the mystique of curves and lines that are familiar to lovers of woman...the seen and the unseen. Part proceeds of all Denise’s sales will go to the womens' centre for creating art in the village of Santiago Zamora in Guatemala. Her art will be featured as originals and prints on canvas and boards, framed and unframed from 61 x 94cm at $380 to 5 x 10cm at $12.

10am – 5pm Lesbian Artisans Market
Fiona Davidson - Sydney, NSW
Fiona will bring along a collection of her sturdy and elegant Wooden chests, memory boxes, scarves, wooden journals, quilts with feminist and lesbian images and cards.
Jack Draper - Bellambi, NSW
Jack will have a range of cards, bookmarks, snow domes, T- shirts, prints and sachets with positive and loving lesbian images printed from her paintings, including the Passion Wand, the image for the Lesbians in the House Concert on 10 July.
Marg McHugh - Nowra, NSW
Marg will bring along her internationally acclaimed art work small paintings, marmalade, leather armlets and fridge magnets.
Denise Walker - Broome, WA
Sonia Zutt - Sydney, NSW
Sonia’s handmade products are from reclaimed material where possible. She has been making little people (mobile dolls) for over a year now in various designs. Son also makes wooden brooches and fridge magnets from reclaimed wood, this is also part of a children's party project that she has just established. She produces photo cards of all her products including holidays, pets, retro and vintage post cards.

10.15am Acknowledgement of Country: Glendra
We began the day with an acknowledgement of Aboriginal Land. The Elders of the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation were acknowledged in song in language. Everyone joined in.
10.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm Self Defence, Same Sex Salsa and Martial Arts
Demonstrations happened throughout the day by Penny Gulliver and her team from Newtown Martial Arts/GLMA students and helpers: Nikki, Jessica, Tamara, Irene, Emilie, Del, Mickie, Pola, Haley and Holly.
11am – 12.15pm Lesbians in the Hall Poets: Host Jenni Nixon
Beatriz Copello, Keztril, Tricia Dearborn, Gabe Journey, Jenni Nixon and Ray Tyndale. Open mic readers included: Uma Kali-Shakti, Ros Hope and a Fostering Young Lives poem.
12.15pm – 1pm Lesbian Walking Tour of Newtown
35 lesbians met at the front steps of Newtown Neighbourhood Centre for a guided walk around Newtown the lesbian heart of Sydney. Tour included Twenty10, Flying Penguin, King Street Newtown businesses Bloodwood Restaurant, Holy Sheet, Better Read Than Dead and Gelatomassi concluding with a 1pm BBQ Lunch at The Women's Library 10 Brown Street, Newtown.
2pm – 3.30pm Lesbians in the Hall Musos: Host Sin
Westgate Lounge Collective (Michelle Westgate, Julia Jacobs, Corinne Roberts & Mystie Ford), Sue Gee, Kerrin Dow, Pilot Darcy, Sally Hackett, Colleen Fricker and Su Blu. Open mic singers included: Joanna Leigh.
3.30pm – 5pm Lesbian Discussion Forum: Facilitator Katrina Fox
Local Sydney lesbians Gail Hewison, Steph Sands, Gabe Journey, Corrina Liao, Holly Bennett and Mardi James discussed their thoughts on this Virginia Woolf quote:
"As a woman, I have no country. As a woman, I want no country. As a woman my country is the whole world."
The forum included question and discussion time. Gold coin donation if only attending the forum.
For Kids Young & Old:
11am - 1pm Maureen Nash provided face painting and bubbles for kids young and old.
SATURDAY NIGHT IN NEWTOWN
After dinner with friends at one of Newtown or Enmore's delicious restaurants, over 50 women attended a Lesbian Movie Night: Saturday 9 July 7.30pm – 10pm at The Women's Library, 10 Brown Street, Newtown. They enjoyed a great lesbian movie in feminist company: 'Better Than Chocolate', hot chocolate, chocolate treats and a lively discussion among the stacks. Women welcome, $10/$5 at the door supporting The Women's Library.
Other Stall Holders
ACON information stall. Annaliese Constable, Coordinator of the Lesbian and Same-Sex Attracted Women's Health Project brought along a lot of ACON information nd resources to share with everyone at a Day in Newtown. The Feminist Bookshop
Chai and Cakes a delicious stall by Amma's Kitchen, a community service activity run and supported by enthusiastic volunteers. Currently serving meals to between 40 to over 80 homeless people up to 6 times each month. Money raised at their stall goes towards Amma's charitable services.
Fostering Young Lives finds safe, stable and loving homes for children and young people who can’t live with their birth family. Some children need care for a few days or weeks, other for months or years. Foster carers come from all walks of life – they can be gay or straight and single or in a relationship. Anyone over the age of 21 who wants to provide a safe and loving home can apply to become a foster carer. Ph 02 9504 6694.

Self Defence Now with Penny Gulliver is an in-house program available to your organisation ranging from a one hour presentation to a 12 hour intensive aimed at untrained participants of all ages for Safety, Confidence and Self Esteem. We also have Martial Arts Classes at Erskineville Town Hall, and Same Sex Salsa Classes Wednesday Nights at 10 Brown St Newtown. Ph 0411 808 451.
