THE F-WORD: A DAY OF GLOBAL FEMINIST DEBATE
4 March 2012, Sydney Opera House

Is feminism a dirty word?  No, not that F-word, but one equally as controversial and dirty – Feminism. This March Sydney Opera House will present an afternoon of feisty, full-on, free flowing debate. Is equality taken for granted by young women in the west and why do they shy away from using the F word to describe their beliefs? Is this ambivalence a betrayal of what second and third wave feminists fought to achieve?

Join two of the world's most fearless feminist icons - Naomi Wolf (2pm) and Germaine Greer (3.30pm), to talk about global feminism and activism, as well as a forum (5.30pm) that discusses its future.
Duration: talks are 60 minutes and forum is 90 mins.  Bookings at  www.sydneyoperahouse.com/whatson/the_f_word.aspx

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
8 March 2012 – Everywhere, worldwide

A global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. Suffragettes campaigned for women's right to vote. The word 'Suffragette' is derived from the word "suffrage" meaning the right to vote. International Women's Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women's success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed.

The first International Women's Day event was run in 1911. 2011 was the Global Centenary Year. IWD 2012 theme: Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures. Search for IWD events in your area at www.internationalwomensday.com.au

SYDNEY IWD
Saturday 10 March 2012

The International Women’s Day 2012 celebrations in Sydney are being organised by the ‘f Collective’. There will be a picnic in First Fleet Park, Circular Quay on Saturday 10 March 2012 from midday.  Womyn drummers invited to meet at the stage at 11.45am to welcome everyone in with a drum jam.

After last year’s great success we wanted to have a new format and focus for the 101st IWD. The theme for this year is Re-generation: Shaping our Feminist Future. We are focused on getting the community together with a special emphasis on the next generation of feminists. As such the speakers and performers at the event will all be young women.

We will not be having stalls this year but we are welcoming all community groups to bring a picnic blanket down with their flyers, t-shirts, badges and information and we are going to set up a special area where people can find out about all of the great organisations out there.

F Collective (who is organising IWD) will not be organising a march this year.  For more information
